When I was a kid, I was molested by my best friend’s dad from ages 8-10. Now I do Stand-up comedy about it. Laughing about my experience allowed me to begin processing and healing from what happened to me. Telling my story in a light-hearted way has made it much easier to speak about. At WHTY Foundation, we are dedicated to normalizing conversations about trauma using humor.
When I talk about being molested as a child in my Stand-up, people consistently come up to me afterwards and tell me about their own stories of trauma. Laughing about our trauma makes us feel connected. For so long I was afraid and ashamed to speak about my experience. Now, I’ve found that sharing and laughing about what happened to me has provided the catharsis I had been looking for since I was a kid.
I started the “What Happened To You" podcast to provide a forum for others to tell their stories, so they can experience healing through humor in the same way I have.
I started the WHTY Foundation to spread awareness and end the stigma around the discussion of child abuse. Through legal and education reform, and having conversations about difficult topics, we are helping people around the world heal from their trauma. Thanks for reading and being a part of this discussion!
